  3. frmgrl08 says:

We had class on November 5th so we actually spent most of that class talking about it. It was so fascinating!

  4. Carycomic says:

Congratulations! I was very intrigued by his comparison of trick-or-treating to the begging traditions of Guy Fawkes Day, much later on in the special.

  5. Carycomic says:

Btw: is Harry Smith’s Thanksgiving special on here, yet?

  6. Carycomic says:

Pay attention to the whole special, young Skywalker, and all facets will be sufficiently explained.

    I LOVE HALLOWEEN SO MUCH
My favorite time of the year lol

  8. flute4hire says:

And some of the opening clips arnt even from Halloween there from the Lewes bonfires which is a anti Catholic festival in England on Nov 5th which started in the 1600s. The Celts were from the whole British Isles not just Ireland.

  9. flute4hire says:

Halloween is from Ireland?? Why do Americans think everything pagan is from Ireland?? Halloween is from the British Isles in general & Pagan europe as well I would of thought.

  10. Carycomic says:

    Well, I’m a bit of a history geek. ;-D

And, if I remember correctly, the pre-Roman British Isles had quite an abundance of metal ores. Copper and tin, in particular.

You’re welcome. And you got ME curious too, so I asked a (proudly) uber-geeky friend. He says copper will burn with a green flame (I guess he has magical fire that burns metals?). So will boric acid (probably what I sprinkled on my fires), but the BEST is a mix of barium nitrate, potassium chlorate, sulphur, powdered shellac, mercurous chloride and charcoal.

    *groan* ask a chem geek a simple question…. ;-)

  12. Carycomic says:

Well, thank you for responding, anyway.
    :-)

  13. Merricat42 says:

@Carycomic It’s just a chemical reaction. Back when I had a fireplace, I’d sometimes pick up a packet of “rainbow flames” (forget the actual name; it was in Toronto). You’d toss it onto the fire, and the flames would burn colourfully for a few moments. It ended as soon as the powder was burnt up. So I would imagine THIS green-flame burned whatever chemical that makes that colour (sorry, not a chemist, maybe someone else knows.)

  14. Carycomic says:

I’m just idly curious. How does a flame burn green? I was under the impression that green wood was incapable of being burned.

halloween = pagan and business makeing that many people are blind off, thats why we hear always check your candies, protect your kids or family members during trick or treat.

  16. godsplumbline says:

looks simular to the practices in the Bohemian Grove

  17. strathpipe says:

toonNag50 I guess you must be english? we have been doing halloween in Scotland since way way back before england came to being and the kids still do it makes it an export not an import Dummy

  18. audgeyp says:

You are right. There was no such thing as the devil in the Pagan religion. The devil is a Christian entity. Some people should just lighten up and have fun with the holiday!

  19. AriaInTheSky says:

    So was my great-grandfather.

  20. toonmag50 says:

trick or treat is a yankee cultural import into Britain-we dont do it-will you piss off.
I dont even think the Irish do it.
    Enchanting 3000 years history pishe
The Celts were indiginous people of the UK -not a “war like tribe”-twat

  21. freacls says:
